Eat Local
Out of the blue, Stache and I decided to go out to LUNCH today. Can you believe it? I know! Hopping on our phones to look up reviews for new restaurants in the area, we eventually agreed to try out The Local Eatery & Pub. Apparently, it was new in town, – eight YEARS ago! I guess we don’t get to Westfield too often.
Farm To Table
With great reviews and their claim to fame being “From the local farm to The Local’s table,” we were quite intrigued to give this new to us place, a try. Another slogan states, “THERE IS NO LOVE MORE SINCERE than the love of food.” Goodness! Stache and I couldn’t go that far, but we do love great food.
I have to say, upon entering The Local, I was a bit nervous. With today being March 11th, 2019, the two Christmas decorated flowerpots flanking the entrance suggested a lack of attention to detail. A nice touch in their day, I’m sure. However, mid-March Christmas decor was a bit worrisome for me.
I convinced myself to push forward regardless, assuming perhaps the food was SO fantastic, they didn’t have time for updated flower pots. I’m glad I did!
We discovered inside a delightful place that very comfortably lives up to its name. Hard pressed to describe it, the word ‘perfect’ comes to mind. Not too fancy, styled with layered personality, we enjoyed the art, the table settings, and the ambiance.
Many menu items caught our eye. At the suggestion of our servers, we decided to share the large Asian Pear Salad with poached Asian pears, arugula, bleu cheese, spiced walnuts, and champagne vinaigrette and the Old Smokey Burger. In two words, they were exceptionally delicious!! It may sound crazy, but I haven’t tasted a fresher, tastier walnut since our Farmers Market Days back in CA.
Asian Pear Salad
I don’t usually go for a burger, but sharing one with Stache today, seemed just right. The Old Smokey is a 17-day aged local beef burger topped with bacon, smoked aioli, house giardiniera, and smoked gouda. It comes served with crispy fries. Twice between inescapable moans, I heard myself tell Stache, “this is the best ever!” And I believe it was.
The Old Smokey Burger
Sharing a large salad and one entree most often opens the door to Stache and I sharing a dessert. Way up on the huge chalkboard, listed among other desserts, were ‘Beignets.’ Irresistible! Served tossed in a powdered sugar with vanilla creme anglaise, we were beyond even trying to resist. We unabashedly relished them together in pure delight.
Beignets!
We highly recommend The Local Eatery & Pub and look forward to the next time we find ourselves in Westfield, IN, searching for a casual, amazing lunch. We’re sure to be back.
