Decidedly my gig in our early years, somewhere along the way Stache began regularly making Saturday morning breakfasts. Our kids will tell you they always enjoyed dads occasional treats from the kitchen, however it was never a routine.
I believe it all started back a few years when we were trying to save a few bucks and stay home for dates. At that time, we actually did the cooking together. It was fun and special simply to be focused on each other for a bit.
A rough picture I agree, but it’s yet another testament to his mother. The man was raised with excellent all-around skills. Being quite the “foodie,” he genuinely enjoys this new norm. In fact, it’s quite grown into “his territory,” where he enjoys the planning as well as the creating.
Of course, dates are more than a plate of food, but the food is the surest way to get Stache to sit still for a while and visit. Look what I was served for breakfast this morning!
That there is Roasted Potatoes with Peppers and Onions, thick-cut Bacon, Farm Eggs and pan grilled Asparagus. He apologized for forgetting to sautee the mushrooms he had planned. Pure craziness! The meal was fabulous as it was.
I don’t know why this is the case, but I’m sure you girls will understand. An hour later I wandered into the kitchen for a refill of coffee. Greeted with the sight and scent of freshly washed dishes and a scrubbed sink and counters, I was completely besotted!
The breakfast and attentive conversation were over the top enough, but the cheerful, attitude-free gift of a clean kitchen? Well, I have no more words! Only love! And gratefulness, no doubt.
