Small Town America

Have I mentioned we live out in the cornfields of Central Indiana? Much of the Midwest has distinctive pockets of little towns bordered by farmland. If you’re fortunate enough to live near a thriving little town, there just might be a great ‘hole in the wall’ type of restaurant to frequent. Erica’s Place is such as that.

Feels Like Home

This weekend Stache and I decided to stick close to home. Going to Erica’s Place is practically like home, -except for the 15 minutes between here and there, and minus the work and mess of cooking. We choose Erica’s often.

Most days, the moment you walk through the door at Erica’s, your new name is “Hun.” Some folks don’t appreciate the familiarity, but I like it just fine. With the strong sense of community there, it’s easy to feel included, -especially given a name like “Hun.”

The food is consistently great, Small-Town-Cafe type food. I haven’t tried everything yet. The things I have tried seem to ‘reach out for me’ again and again, so it’s rough getting to new items.

We Picked Our Favorites Yet Again!

Today both Stache and I went for our favorite, Chopped Steak with two Eggs, Hash Browns and a choice of Toast or Biscuit. Per our usual, Stache asked for the Biscuit and added a cup of Gravy. I skipped the toast but added a Pancake.

Not to be mistaken for a simple hamburger, the Chopped Steak is surprisingly fantastic. Altogether, it’s the sort of breakfast that can keep you going all day, or likely should.

Along with a couple of cups of coffee, we thought we would be walking out of there about twenty-five bucks lighter. Which would have been the case except for apparently somebody in the community foot the bill for all Veterans and their families for the day! (What?!)

Happy Veterans Day!

We were completely shocked! And grateful of course. What a great kindness the gift was, especially for Stache. He is a proud, once and for always, Marine Corp Vet.

Nothing fancy at Erica’s Place, but who needs it? We find the food, the service and the community vibe, consistently delightful!
